Day 1 Haneda/Narita Airport Tokyo

Welcome to Japan! Upon arrival at Narita or Haneda Airport, your shared shuttle driver will be waiting for you in the arrivals area. Be whisked away to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2 Tokyo

Following breakfast at your hotel this morning, meet your fellow tour companions for a short welcome briefing in the lobby before departing on a Tokyo full day tour by private coach with an English-speaking guide. Firstly, visit Tsukiji outer market before heading to Hamarikyu Garden where we will be able to experience tasting Japanese Green Tea. Following this enjoy a delightful Sumida River Boat Cruise to Tokyo’s ancient Buddhist temple, Senso-ji. We will enjoy strolling through the Nakamise Shopping Street before heading to Ueno Park, renowned for its display of around 1,200 breath-taking Cherry Blossom trees. This evening we will head out for a Welcome Dinner at a local Japanese Izakaya restaurant nearby the hotel.

Day 3 Tokyo

Following breakfast at your hotel this morning, we will head to Meiji Jingu Shrine, a shrine dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji. As we enter into the shrine grounds we will be greeted with a large torii gate, after which the sights and sounds of the busy city are replaced by a tranquil forest. Following Meiji Jingu, we will visit the Shibuya Sky Observatory to enjoy360 degree panorama views of Tokyo including looking down onto the famous Shibuya scramble crossing. The final stop for today will be Ginza famous for its high end shops and cafes, we will return to the hotel and the afternoon is at leisure.

Day 4 Tokyo Lake Kawaguchi Matsumoto

Following breakfast at your hotel this morning, we will say good bye to Tokyo as we head for beautiful Lake Kawaguchi. Once we arrive, we will take a ride on the Kachi Kachi Ropeway to the Mt. Tenjo where hopefully we will see a panoramic view of Mt. Fuji. Before we head to Matsumoto, we will explore the Kubota Itchiku Art Museum. This intriguing museum is dedicated to Kubota Itchiku andthe art of Tsujigahana silk dyeing. Here you will be able to several of the artist's kimono creations, depicting themes of nature, the cosmos and the seasons.

Day 5 Matsumoto Takayama

Following breakfast at your hotel this morning, we will head to Matsumoto Castle as known as the "Crow Castle" due to its black exterior. Once we have climbed back down the steep inside stairs of the Castle we will head towards a local Miso factory. At the Miso factory we will enjoy a tour to learn the process of making Miso before enjoying a delicious lunch. This afternoon we will head to the beautifully preserved old town of Takayama.

Day 6 Takayama

Following breakfast at your hotel this morning, we will enjoy a full day walking tour of the old town Takayama, so please ensure to wear comfortable shoes. Firstly, we will head to the Morning Market where we can enjoy looking at local crafts as well as sampling local food, before heading to Takayama Jinya the government office during the Edo period. This afternoon we will view spectacular floats of the Takayama Festival which are stored at Yatai Kaikan and visit a local sake brewery to learn the sake brewing process as well as tasting various sake, a favourite amongst Japanese!

Day 7 Takayama Gokayama Katayamazu Onsen

Following breakfast at your hotel this morning, we will head to Katayamazu Onsen via Shirakawa-go. The first stop of our day will be the UNESCO World Heritage Listed traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouse villages Ainokura and Gokayama. Here we will stroll the narrow streets to view many of the houses which have been turned into stalls or museums. Whilst at Gokayama we will enjoy an experience of traditional Japanese paper making known as Washi. This afternoon we will head to our ryokan in Katayamazu Onsen this evening is at leisure and we recommend you enjoy some of the 22 different types of onsens after your traditional Japanese Kaiseki dinner.

Day 8 Katayamazu Onsen Kanazawa

Following breakfast at your hotel this morning, we will take a short drive to Kanazawa and spend the day exploring the city known for Edo-era districts, art museums and regional handicrafts, The first stop of the day is Omicho Market, a heaven for fresh fruit, seafood and local specialties. We will then visit Nomura Samuai house before heading to Kenroku-en garden which is regarded as one of the most beautiful feudal lords' gardens in Japan. Lastly we will visit Higashi-Chaya district the largest and by far the most interesting of three districts within Kanazawa. Here we will stroll the well preserved streets which are lined by tea houses, cafes and shops including Hakuza, a shop for gold leaf products, a specialty of Kanazawa, which also displays a tea ceremony room completely covered in gold leaf.

Day 9 Kanazawa Osaka

Following breakfast at your hotel this morning, please leave your main suitcase at reception as it will be delivered to your hotel in Kyoto. Please bring an overnight bag for your stay in Osaka. Today we will experience the Japanese train network as we head to Osaka. The afternoon is at leisure until we head by subway to Shinsekai a district that was developed before the war and then neglected in the decades afterwards. Here we will stroll the unique streets filled with downtown local food and bright neon lights, you will have time at leisure to enjoy dinner before returning to the hotel.

Day 10 Osaka

Following breakfast at your hotel this morning, we will venture on a half day tour around Osaka, firstly grab a glimpse of Osaka Castle from the coach window before taking in views of Osaka as we enjoy an Aqua liner cruise. Lastly, we will head to Umeda Sky Building which is 173 meters tall including an observation deck that provides spectacular views of the city from above.

Day 11 Osaka Nara Kyoto

Following breakfast at your hotel this morning, we will head to Nara stopping at Todai-ji Temple, known for its Great Buddha Hall a historic monument of ancient Nara. The temple is within Nara Park, where you can see and interact with the deer that roam freely, before visiting Kasuga-taisha Shrine. After exploring Nara, we will visit Nijo Castle, a World Heritage listed and historical monument of Kyoto, before we head to our accommodation.

Day 12 Kyoto

Following breakfast at your hotel this morning, head out into the  culture capital of Japan to begin the day with a Japanese cooking class at a traditional Machiya house. We will learn how to make popular bento dishes and enjoy these for lunch. This afternoon we will head to Sanjusangendo, famous for its 1,001 statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy as well as having Japan's longest wooden temple hall. We will then enjoy Kiyomizu-dera temple, offering views of Kyoto city from its wooden stage that is 13 meters above the hillside below and built without the use of nails. Lastly we will stroll Ninen-zaka a gently sloping lane that leads down from Kiyomizu-dera Temple lined with beautifully restored traditional shophouses. Here we are able to imagine what Kyoto looked like before modernity descended in full force.

Day 13 Kyoto

Following breakfast at your hotel this morning, today will see us head to Arashiyama where we will take a stroll through the Bamboo forest before viewing Togetsu-kyo bridge. If we are lucky the dozen of cherry blossom trees adjacent to the bridge will be in bloom. This afternoon we will visit Ginkaku-ji temple, to see the Silver Pavilion, a beautiful moss garden and a unique dry sand garden. We will also stroll the famous Philosophers path which is lined with hundreds of cherry trees providing stunning photo opportunities. In the evening, we will head to the Gion District, a famous area to glimpse beautiful Maiko on the streets en-route to their appointments. Whilst in Gion we will enjoy a farewell dinner with an enchanting Maiko dance performance before heading back to the hotel for your final night’s sleep in Japan.

Day 14 Kyoto Kansai Airport

Following breakfast at your hotel this morning, we say Sayonara to Japan, however you are free to spend the day at your leisure until you are picked up from the hotel by a shared shuttle service to head to Kansai Airport for your departure flight. Please note the pick up time is about 4 hours prior to your flight.
