Zao Onsen
Zao Onsen is a charming ski resort located in the Yamagata Prefecture, northeastern Japan. This uncrowded ski resort offers an abundance of light, fluffy powder snow and a range of cultural experiences that will leave you enchanted. With an average snowfall of 12m per season, Zao Onsen is fast becoming a popular destination for skiers and snowboarders alike.
Being one of the most accessible ski resorts in Japan, Zao Onsen offers a unique experience for visitors. The new lift pass provides extended access to some of the best off-piste mountains in the Tohoku region, including the famous Shirakawa and Kurosawa areas. Additionally, Zao Onsen has a dedicated Ski Host program, where local English-speaking volunteers will assist you in finding restaurants, bars, museums, galleries, and all events and activities on the mountain.
Location
Zao Onsen is located in the Yamagata Prefecture, approximately 3.5 hours from Tokyo Station. Shinkansen (bullet traisn) are available from Tokyo Station to Yamagata Station, followed by a bus ride to Zao Onsen.
How to get there
From Tokyo: 2.5 hours Shinkansen from Tokyo to Yamagata. A 40 minutes bus ride from Yamagata St. to Zao Onsen area.
From Yamagata Airport: 60 minutes by bus from the airport to Zao Onsen area.
