Origami is one of Japan's best known cultural activities. It's not only fun, but also a test of your focus and coordination!

In this Origami class, you will be given colourful Japanese paper and will learn how to make unique beautiful figures. Suitable for beginners and children, the class is 1 hour long. One of Japan's well-known cultural activities, enjoyed by both young and old, you too can learn the art of paper folding to create a variety of shapes including flowers, animals and people.

If you're feeling ambitious about building your skill set, why not pair your learning of origami with another of Japan's long held traditional past times - Calligraphy, Tea Ceremony or Koto (Japanese musical instrument)?

2 Hour Origami & Calligraphy Workshop [Adults: $84.00pp]

Level: Beginner
Experience the traditional art of Japanese paper-folding first-hand with our specialist instructor. Start your origami journey by learning step-by-step how to make simple origami shapes. In addition, enjoy the Japanese cultural activity of calligraphy - learning how to write your own names using Japanese characters.

2 Hour Origami & Japanese Tea Workshop [Adults: $84.00pp]

Level: Beginner

2 Hour Origami & Koto Workshop [Adults: $120.00pp]

Level: Beginner
Experience the traditional art of Japanese paper-folding first-hand with our specialist instructor. Start your origami journey by learning step-by-step how to make simple origami shapes. In addition, learn to play some Japanese Koto music - a versatile instrument with a long history stretching back to the 7th century, well-known in Japan for its lingering echo-like sounds and changing tones.

About Midori Sensei

Midori Sensei is a Sydney-based contemporary artist and active member of the local art community. Born in Japan, her early years were immersed in the traditions of Japanese culture, with many of her family members being masters of disciplines including calligraphy, tea ceremony, flower arrangement, Noh dancing and traditional musical instruments, such as koto, shamisen & shakuhachi. After the 2011 Japan disaster, Midori started an origami project, “Fold with Love”. Midori is known as origami specialist and runs workshops and projects at numerous venues, such as the Art Gallery of NSW, Powerhouse Museum and Japan Foundation Sydney.
