Taiko Perth

Longing to express yourself through traditional Japanese music, art, and culture?
Why not get your rhythm on and try Taiko Drumming - Fun for anyone and everyone!

Taiko originates from the festival culture of Japan, which is as varied and diverse as the drum are loud. Over the last 60 years, many groups have taken the colour and movement of Taiko from these local Japanese Matsuri festivals and brought them together on stage and introduced taiko to audiences around the globe. Taiko is easily recognised for its stylised martial arts-like movements, simple powerful rhythms, and synchronised actions.

About Your Instructors

The members of this dynamic troupe have drawn from a wide variety of backgrounds and come together to study and display their love of the Japanese drums to the wider audience. Their Sensei, Simon, originally studied Taiko in the mountains of Nagano, and since bringing his love of Wadaiko back to Australia has helped form four Taiko groups across Tasmania and WA.
